NCBI Summary for GBP1
Guanylate binding protein expression is induced by interferon. Guanylate binding proteins are characterized by their ability to specifically bind guanine nucleotides (GMP, GDP, and GTP) and are distinguished from the GTP-binding proteins by the presence of 2 binding motifs rather than 3. UniProt Comments for GBP1
GBP1: a member of the family of large GTP-binding proteins (GBPs) that is inducible by interferon. Possesses a high GTP hydrolysis activity. GBPs are the most abundant cellular proteins expressed in response to interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma). IFN-gamma, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), and interleukin-1beta (IL-1beta) strongly induce the expression of GBP-1, -2, and -3.
Protein type: Vesicle; Cell adhesion; Hydrolase
Chromosomal Location of Human Ortholog: 1p22.2
Cellular Component: Golgi membrane; extracellular region; cytosol
Molecular Function: GTPase activity; identical protein binding; GTP binding
Biological Process: metabolic process; cytokine and chemokine mediated signaling pathway; defense response to virus
