Chromosome Location
Chromosome: 14; NC_000080.5 (68737602..68743061, complement). Location: 14 D1; 14
3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for P08553
Specificity
The epitope is localized to within the last 56 amino acids at the extreme C-terminus of rat NF-M, the so-called KE segment which is highly conserved between NF-M molecules from different species. Recognizes intact NF-M strongly and specifically on Western Blots in all mammals and birds tested to date and also binds NF-M in cells in tissue culture and in sectioned material.
Purity/Purification
Supernatant
Tissue culture supernatant
Form/Format
Supplied as a liquid in PBS, pH 7.2, 0.1% sodium azide.
Immunogen
Recombinant fusion protein containing the extreme C-terminus of rat NF-M expressed in and purified from E. coli (1).
Preparation and Storage
May be stored at 4 degree C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, add glycerol (40-50%)aliquot and store at -20 degree C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degree C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
Other Notes
Small volumes of anti-Nefm antibody vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.
Related Product Information for
anti-Nefm antibody
Neurofilaments are the 10nm or intermediate filament proteins found specifically in neurons, and are composed predominantly of three major proteins called NF-L, NF-M and NF-H. NF-M is the neurofilament middle or medium molecular weight polypeptide and runs on SDS-PAGE gels at 145-160kD, with some variability across species boundaries. Antibodies to NF-M are useful for identifying neuronal cells and their processes in tissue sections and in tissue culture. NF-M antibodies can also be useful in the diagnostics of neurofilament accumulations seen in many neurological diseases, such as Lou Gehrig's disease or Alzheimer's disease.

UniProt Comments for Nefm
NFM: a neurofilament intermediate filament protein. Neurofilaments usually contain three intermediate filament proteins: L, M, and H which are involved in the maintenance of neuronal caliber. The levels of phosphorylation are altered developmentally and coincident with a change in the neurofilament function.
Protein type: Cytoskeletal
Cellular Component: neuron projection; cytoskeleton; axon; cell; neurofilament; intermediate filament; intracellular; neuromuscular junction; myelin sheath
Molecular Function: structural molecule activity
Biological Process: neurofilament cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis; regulation of axon diameter; axon cargo transport; intermediate filament cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis; intermediate filament bundle assembly; microtubule cytoskeleton organization and biogenesis
Research Articles on Nefm
1. results obtained in mouse model for leprous neuropathy indicate biochemical alterations in neurofilaments, i.e., hyperphosphorylation of NF-H and NF-M
