3D Structure
ModBase 3D Structure for Q62426
Purity/Purification
Greater than 95% as determined by reducing SDS-PAGE.
Form/Format
Supplied as a 0.2 muM filtered solution of 20mM MES, 150mM NaCl, pH 7.4.
Endotoxin
Less than 0.1 ng/mug (1 IEU/mug) as determined by LAL test.
Directions for Use
Always centrifuge tubes before opening. Do not mix by vortex or pipetting. It is not recommended to reconstitute to a concentration less than 100 mug/ml. Dissolve the lyophilized protein in 1X PBS. Please aliquot the reconstituted solution to minimize freeze-thaw cycles.
Preparation and Storage
Lyophilized protein should be stored at -20 degree C, though stable at room temperature for 3 weeks. Reconstituted protein solution can be stored at 2-8 degree C for 2-7 days. Aliquots of reconstituted samples are stable at -20 degree C for 3 months.
Other Notes
Small volumes of CSTB recombinant protein vial(s) may occasionally become entrapped in the seal of the product vial during shipment and storage. If necessary, briefly centrifuge the vial on a tabletop centrifuge to dislodge any liquid in the container`s cap. Certain products may require to ship with dry ice and additional dry ice fee may apply.

UniProt Comments for CSTB
CSTB: This is an intracellular thiol proteinase inhibitor. Tightly binding reversible inhibitor of cathepsins L, H and B. Defects in CSTB are the cause of progressive myoclonic epilepsy type 1 (EPM1). EPM1 is an autosomal recessive disorder characterized by severe, stimulus-sensitive myoclonus and tonic-clonic seizures. The onset, occurring between 6 and 13 years of age, is characterized by convulsions. Myoclonus begins 1 to 5 years later. The twitchings occur predominantly in the proximal muscles of the extremities and are bilaterally symmetrical, although asynchronous. At first small, they become late in the clinical course so violent that the victim is thrown to the floor. Mental deterioration and eventually dementia develop. Belongs to the cystatin family.
Protein type: Inhibitor
Cellular Component: cytoplasm; extracellular space; nucleolus; nucleus
Molecular Function: cysteine protease inhibitor activity; endopeptidase inhibitor activity; protease binding
Biological Process: ***** locomotory behavior; negative regulation of peptidase activity; negative regulation of proteolysis
Research Articles on CSTB
1. Results suggest a role for CSTB in regulating microglial activation: data link CSTB deficiency to early activation and altered functional properties of microglia, imply presence of both enhanced and suppressed immune response-related microglial functions
